About the event

Can you believe it? It has actually been almost 10 years since the Accessibility Club last visited its birthplace, Nuremberg! 😯

Back then, Karl Groves was our guest and attracted a few dozen participants, including a class of students. Since then, the Accessibility Club has visited many new places, including Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Würzburg, and Amsterdam. Now, it is finally time for the club to return “home”.

In October 2026, we warmly invite you to join us in the tollwerkstatt in Nuremberg once again to co-create an informal meetup focused on digital accessibility and assistive technologies.

Please note: Unlike most Accessibility Club events, this meetup will most likely be held entirely in German, including Stefan's presentation. Questions and conversations in English are of course welcome at any time.

The teams from tollwerk and mindscreen will be there — and hopefully a great number of enthusiasts from the region and beyond. We look forward to seeing you!

Do you have an idea for a session?

Stefan Farnetani has just been working intensively on the soon-to-be-released version of EN 301 549 and has offered to report to us on the differences from the current version — which we think is great. However, we would also have time for a second session of 30–45 minutes. Would you be interested in giving a little presentation or hosting a session? If so, please get in touch with us! As the meetup will be held in German, the second session should ideally be in German as well.

Wie lassen sich unterschiedliche Kontrastmessverfahren für digitale und physische Oberflächen einfach handhaben?

Barrierefreie Farbkontraste sind eine wichtige Voraussetzung für die Wahrnehmbarkeit von Oberflächen und Designs. Dabei ist Kontrast nicht gleich Kontrast: Es gibt unterschiedliche Methoden, Kontraste zu messen und zu bewerten — etwa für den Bildschirm oder auf Gegenständen. Um diese unterschiedlichen Anforderungen einfacher handhabbar zu machen, hat Joschi mit Pairette ein Online-Werkzeug veröffentlicht, das mehrere Methoden unter einen Hut bringt. Er stellt es vor und erläutert, wie ihr die unterschiedlichen Methoden für euch nutzen könnt, um barrierefreier Farbwahrnehmung zu ermöglichen.

    Joschi has been working on the web since the mid 90s and founded the web agency tollwerk in 2000, which he continues to shape to this day. He has shared leadership of tollwerk with his team in an equal, cooperative and self-organizing way since 2022. He launched a couple of event series like the border:none and Material conferences, the Accessibility Club and the CoderDojo Nürnberg. He occasionally runs IndieWebCamps, hosts the monthly accessibility webcast technica11y and used to be one of the driving forces behind the Nürnberg Digital Festival.

He guides organisations from both the public and private sectors on their journey towards digital accessibility and is responsible for the development of CAAT, an auditing platform also used by official regulatory bodies in Germany and Austria.

Location

We are very delighted to invite you to the tollwerkstatt, located within the tollwerk office spaces, just as we did 10 years ago. Unfortunately, due to structural reasons, the rooms are not wheelchair accessible, which we deeply regret. However, we will provide the option to attend at least the presented sessions online via Zoom (the Zoom address will be sent to all ticket holders shortly before the meetup).

The tollwerkstatt is easily accessible by public transport. To get there, take the U-Bahn U2 from Nuremberg Central Station (Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof) towards Flughafen / Ziegelstein and get off at the Nordostbahnhof stop. From there, it is about a 5-minute walk in the direction of travel. If you plan to arrive by car, there is plenty of parking available along the street in front of the building.
